Nov. 6 International Workersf Solidarity Rally
Labor Movement under the Global Economic Crisis and International Solidarity = What is the urgent task of labor unions? =
Date: Nov. 6, Saturday, 13:00 to 18:00
Place: Civic Hall of Chiba

We have chosen as the main agenda of this rally: Labor movement under the global economic crisis and international solidarity / What is the urgent task of labor unions?

We think it imperative for us to tackle with our common pressing problem to solidify working class unity and to create a new movement, beyond national border. This is the reason why wefve made such a choice.

In Japan, we are faced with an over-all offensive of Kan administration of Democratic Party, which has incorporated the system-friendly labor movement in its governing structure. Putting forcibly an gendh to the national railway struggle against the mass dismissal of 1047 workers that constituted only resisting force in Japanese labor movement to oppose the neo-liberal attacks, Kan government is planning a wholesale and arbitrary dismissal of public service workers to carry out the scheme of business circle of converting 90 % of the total Japanese workforce into irregular employment. A sweeping dismantling of the social welfare system is also under way in line with an attempt of invading into the rest of Asian countries as is demonstrated by the recent move over the islets Diaoyudao, a Chinese territory (violently plundered and possessed by Japan in 1895).

These three issues, namely the attempt of dismissal of public service workers, dismantling of social welfare system and aggressive war drive, represent worldwide desperate offensive of imperialism, in other words, gThe war at home & the war abroadh. We are convinced, therefore, that the power to crush this brutal as well as fragile enemyfs attack and open up a new age lies in taking power by workers on the point of production (in workplace) and strengthening international solidarity of working class.
